08:00 AM · Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine Walk
Walk through the thousands of vermilion torii gates that wind up the mountain behind the shrine. It is one of Kyoto's most iconic sights.
Tip: Arrive before 8:30 AM to avoid the massive crowds. The higher you climb, the thinner the crowds get.
12:00 PM · Lunch in Fushimi District
Enjoy a meal near the shrine featuring local specialties like Inari Sushi.
02:30 PM · Sanjusangendo Temple
Commonly known as Sanjusangendo, this temple is famous for its 1,001 statues of Kannon, the goddess of mercy. It is an awe-inspiring sight.
Tip: Photography is strictly prohibited inside the main hall containing the statues.
06:00 PM · Gion District Evening Stroll & Dinner
Walk through the historic Gion district, known for its traditional wooden machiya houses and the possibility of spotting Geiko or Maiko. Finish with a Kaiseki-style dinner.
Tip: Please respect the local rules: do not touch the Geiko or take photos on private streets where signs are posted.
Good to know
- Buy an IC card (Suica/Pasmo/ICOCA) at Kyoto Station for easy bus and train transfers.
- Carry a small trash bag; public bins are very hard to find in Kyoto.
- Make dinner reservations in Gion at least 1-2 weeks in advance.
- Visit the 'Nishiki Market' if you have extra time for snacking.
